What size of rattan sofa set should I buy?

Purchasing a new sofa set for your garden is a big investment of your time and money, so you will want to nail it from the get-go. Firstly, measure the space available to you. This will give you a much better idea of what type of rattan sofa set will be right for you. The majority of our customers at Supreme Rattan Furniture go for either a two- or three-seat sofa. This is a great size combination, providing enough seating capacity for your family and guests, while not taking up an excessive amount of space in your garden or conservatory. Corner sofa sets enable you to position your sofa in a wider choice of locations. This is particularly useful if you have a decking or balcony area with limited available space.

Apart from the sofa itself, what else comes in a typical set?

The sofa is typically accompanied by matching armchairs, footstools and a coffee table in a sofa set. If you intend to use the rattan sofa set outdoors, we would also recommend the purchase of an optional garden parasol to provide cooling shade from the sunshine on hotter days.

How much does a rattan sofa set cost?

On average, prices for a 2 seat rattan sofa set start at approximately £600, with their larger 3 seat counterparts costing around £150 more. However, Supreme Rattan Furniture frequently run special offers on our rattan sofa sets, especially if you order early or later in the year. So please keep coming back to our website or call us for more details on our latest deals.

Do I need to store my rattan sofa set away during the winter months?

No, synthetic rattan is made of a sturdy, all-weather resin that can handle extremely high or low temperatures. All you need to do is store the cushions away in a cool, dry place during the colder winter months. Supreme Rattan Furniture also suggest the use of proper, purpose-built covers when your garden furniture isn't in use for any significant length of time. Garden furniture covers are inexpensive and will protect your rattan sofa set from everyday dirt and debris.

Dining Sets

How to Choose the Right Dining Set: The Complete Buyers Guide

Deciding on which dining set is going to be best for you can be a daunting task, what size do I want? What shape do I want? How many seats should I have? What’s the best seat position? Do I want a parasol? What size cover should I use?

How to choose a table shape

Dining tables have 3 highly common shapes which are round, rectangle or oval. Each shape has its own unique list of benefits and drawbacks; the most common shape is round. The round table is often chosen because it is more inclusive of everyone at the table, easier to accommodate extra guests and easier to serve and share food. Rectangle is the best option for most gardens as often decking and patio areas are square or rectangle making it the ideal fit for the space.  Oval tables are a unique choice which encompasses the benefits of each of the above options; oval tables do however take up the most space per seat. Round and oval tables also allow for the use of the fabulous lazy susan which allows you to pass condiments and items across the table.

Deciding on your table shape can be difficult; we would suggest asking yourself the following questions to help you make up your mind:

  • What shape would fit my current garden best?
  • What am I going to be using my dining set for? Is it social or dining purposes?
  • How many people do I want to seat and how big does this make the table?
  • Am I going to want a Lazy Susan?

Answering these questions will help you determine which would be the best table shape for you and your garden’s needs.

What size should my table be?

Once you have chosen a shape you then can start to look at the size of the table and how many seats you would like, following is a short guideline for table sizes and number of seats that accompany the set.

Round Table

  • 1.2m = 4 Seats
  • 1.35m = 6 Seats
  • 1.8m = 8-10 Seats (Chair Type Dependant)

Rectangle Table

  • 90cm Square = 4 Seats
  • 1m x 1.5m = 6 Seats
  • 1m x 2m = 8 Seats

Oval Table

  • 1.8m x 1.2m = 6-8 Seats (Chair Type Dependant)
  • 2.3m x 1.3m = 8-10 Seats (Chair Type Dependant)

How many people am I likely to sit?

Dining sets come in a few different seating amounts; you have 4 seaters, 6 seaters, 8 seaters and 10 seaters. We believe it highly important at Supreme Rattan Furniture that you shop for your needs not for the occasion. When deciding on which seater to go for you should ask yourself the following things:

  • How many people will regularly be using my dining set?
  • Will I ever need more seats? Does my table allow for this?

Deciding the number of people who will regularly use the dining set will help paint a picture of the number of seats that you will actually need. Then on occasion will you need more than this, and can the set you want allow for the extra.

How to choose the correct type of chair

Dining set chairs have a large number of variables which you need to consider ensuring that you chose the best possible. Some variables to consider are whether you want a back cushion, the angle of the back, arm height, seat height, cushion thickness etc. The single most important thing is to pick a chair that you find comfortable, the easiest and most effective way to do so is to visit one of our Showrooms where you can see and try a large variety of chairs and get the help and advice from our expert showroom staff.

Choosing a parasol and lazy Susan

For all 4 seat dining sets it would be advised that you use a slightly smaller parasol as a larger 3 and 3.5m ones can overpower the set, for 4 seat sets we advise 2.7m.

For 6 and 8 seat sets you have a choice if you are having a round set we would advise a 3m round parasol. If you are going for a rectangle or oval table you have the option to have a 3m x 2m parasol which is large enough to cover the 2m x 1m table and even large oval tables. For Lazy susans you can use 60cm on all sets if you wish but, we highly recommend using 90cm on 1.8m tables for ease of use and to get the best out of the product.

Once you have made your choice it’s time to think about protection

The basic way to work out the correct cover for your dining set is to take the table measurements and add 60cm per chair so for example a 1.35m round table would require a 2.55m round cover table is 1.35m + 60cm + 60cm = 2.55m round cover. Please bear in mind that this is a general guide and dining chairs greatly differ in size, for specific chair measurements you can always contact us via telephone on 0333 456 5220 or via email at [email protected]
